BAPTISMAL RECORD HAS NOT BEEN LOCATED

Dennis was born in 1851. There were not that many Catholic Churches in the Greater Boston area at that time. Churches that would have been around at that time include:

Holy Cross Cathedral (Boston) - established 1788
Saint Mary (Boston) - established 1834
Holy Trinity (Boston) - established 1836
Saint Patrick (Boston) - established 1836
Saint Mary (Quincy) - established in 1840  << 1ST ON SOUTH SHORE >>
Saint Thomas Aquinas (Bridgewater) - established 1848
Saint Mary (Randolph) - established 1851

On 29 Jun 2020, I searched the baptismal index of Holy Cross Cathedral (Boston) at AmericanAncestors.org. The following volumes and pages were searched for Dennis Cashman who was born abt 15 Oct 1851. No record of his baptism was found.

Holy Cross (Boston) Index of Baptisms & Marriages, 1822-1852      19-28

AmericanAncestors.org has baptismal records for St. Mary's in Quincy for the years 1844-1850 and 1900. The year of Dennis' birth, 1851, is not covered.

Saint Thomas Aquinas in Bridgewater has baptism records starting in 1853. Too late for Dennis.

    006 1858c Cashman family portrait
This is a tintype copy of an older ambrotype taken circa 1858. It is believed to be an image of James Cashman, his wife, Catherine Long, and their first seven children. This image was sent to Maureen Taylor, a nationally-known photo historian, for analysis and she said that it looks like it was taken in the 1858-1860 time frame because of the very wide collars that everyone is wearing and the style of the clothing of the women and children. In 1858, James Cashman and Catherine Long had seven children:  Joanna, Julia, John, Dennis, Catherine, James Timothy and Mary Priscilla. Three more children would be born later: William in 1859, Ellen in 1862, and Luke J. in 1866.
From left to right, the children in the photo would be...John Cashman (approx. 9 yrs old), Johanna Cashman (approx. 13 yrs old), James Timothy Cashman (approx. 2 yrs old), baby, Mary Priscilla Cashman (approx. 8 mos old), Dennis J. Cashman (approx. 7 yrs old), Catherine Cashman (approx. 4 yrs old), and Julia Cashman (approx. 11 yrs old). In the center of the photo there are three adults. The imposing man with the suit and tie could only be James Cashman. The woman to the right of center must be his wife Catherine Long. Due to the striking resemblance of the two adult women, Maureen Taylor was of the opinion that they were closely related, probably mother and daughter, as they have the same face shape, eyes, nose and mouth.

It was common during this time period to pose a family matriarch in the center of the photo, a place of honor. It is possible that Catherine’s mother, Julia Long, may have come for a visit and gone back to Ireland at a later date. According to Maureen, this was not unheard of in the mid-1850s, but definitely a big enough deal that you might want to have a photo taken to commemorate the occasion.
It is believed that the three adults in the center of the photo are James Cashman - family patriarch (age 38), Julia McNamara Long (Catherine's visiting mother), Catherine Long Cashman (age 34).
